It might have been a wet year but there are plenty of seeds, nuts and fruits to see in the park, its been a big year for young birds as well especially the park’s swans.
Why not join the senior Rangers at the Visitor Centre to help us celebrate on a walk around part of the park.

Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust is one of a partnership of voluntary organisations, charities and local authorities committed to improving the quality of play areas across Cambridgeshire.
We are working together to develop a series of showcase play landscapes in 5 different locations, one of which is Milton Country Park.

Beginners courses are suitable for people who have not tried rowing before. Improvers courses are aimed at people who have done some rowing before, or who have previously attended a beginners course and would like to develop their skills further.
Rowing courses are taught using indoor rowing machines and stable beginners boats.

Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust appointed Managers of Milton Country Park
On Thursday 19th July South Cambridgeshire District Council appointed Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust to manage and operate Milton Country Park, which abuts the South West corner of the CSL site.
The trust looks forward to expanding the opportunities on offer to the community at the park and we hope that we can build on the parks successes.

A gold Medal was awarded to Ben Wiegman of St Johns College School, who scored an impressive 109% for his team in heat 3. Medals were also awarded to David Hunt from St Johns College School and Rory and Callum Attfield from The Perse School, for outstanding individual performances.

Professor Sarah Springman, Honorary President of the British Triathlon Association is to join Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent as a patron of Cambridge Sport Lakes. Professor Springman will represent triathlon’s interest in this exciting concept, joining a rapidly growing group of national and international supporters.
Cambridge Sport Lakes will create one of the largest multi-purpose outdoor sports venues in the country for triathlon, cycling, rowing, canoeing and BMX. It will provide accessible and affordable entrées to these sports for the local community and serve as an important training and competition venue for amateur sports men and women and the international elite. The lakes will give a much needed leisure resource and breathing space back to the residents of Cambridge and the East of England. A fundraising campaign is currently underway to raise the remaining £10.9 million needed to finance the project.

Professor Springman stated, “I am absolutely delighted about the prospects for triathletes to benefit from this initiative. Off-road, traffic-free training and racing opportunities combined with open water swimming under semi-controlled conditions will offer tremendous advantages to local and regional triathletes, duathletes and aquathletes of all ages. Great progress has been made but we now need to think laterally to discover new sources of financing that will enable the project to be completed as early as possible!”
Professor Springman, who is currently chair of geotechnical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, is a well-known figure, not only in the triathlon community, but also in the world of sports diplomacy. Sarah Springman has been described as an inspiration for women and fair play in the sport of triathlon and was awarded an OBE for her services to sport in 1997. A distinguished international athlete in her own right, Sarah was the driving force behind the first triathlon and aquathlon events in Cambridge from 1985 onwards, and was a founding member of the Cambridge Tri Club. Cambridge Tri is now one of the country’s largest and most successful triathlon clubs, hosting both regional and national events, and with members of the GB team at elite, U23, junior and age group. Sarah lived and trained in Cambridge for the decade in which she won her 11 British open titles and represented Great Britain continuously in triathlon and duathlon. She was also a successful age group rower and sculler and has won 20 World titles in recent years.

12th March 2005: Youngsters take up the Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust Team Challenge [top]

On Saturday 12th March 2005, over 100 young people from schools and rowing clubs throughout the region took part in the Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust Junior Indoor Rowing Challenge 2005 at Parkside Community College, Cambridge. Participants lined up on indoor rowing machines to see if their crew could follow in the footsteps of Pinsent, Coode, Cracknell and Williams and achieve gold.

The competition was a totally-inclusive relay event open to teams of four athletes aged between 10 and 18 years. Achievement of individuals was measured against “Gold Medal Standard Distances” and expressed as a percentage of that distance. Each competitor completed a 2-minute sprint trying to beat his or her “Gold Medal” target. The structure of the competition allowed young people with disabilities to compete without disadvantage.

The final was a closely fought competition, with Cantabrigian Rowing Club under 18 boys narrowly beating a mixed under 13 team from St John’s College School to take the title of Challenge champions. Pewter tankards were awarded to both teams for their efforts by Laurie Hallifax, trustee of the Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust and well-known local junior rowing coach. Medals also went to Owen Giles from The Perse School, Tom Heathcote from St John’s College School and Nickie King from Lady Adrian School for outstanding individual performances. Every athlete went home a winner with a Challenge t-shirt for his or her efforts.

25th January 2005: Sport Clubs Join Together to Help the Campaign [top]
Volunteers from each of the sports featured at Cambridge Sport Lakes: BMX, cycling, canoeing, rowing and triathlon, met on Tuesday 25th January 2005 to discuss ways of developing common strategies for support across sports.

17th November 2004: Cambridge Sport Lakes Offers Outdoor Multi-Sport Centre to Region [top]

Sir David Trippier RD, JP, DL announced the launch of the Cambridge Sport Lakes campaign at a reception held in the House of Commons on Wednesday 17th November 2004. The reception was sponsored by James Paice, MP for South East Cambridgeshire and attended by numerous supporters of the lakes including international athletes from rowing and triathlon. Cambridge Sport Lakes is to be a 220-acre outdoor multi-sport and leisure park located only 4.5 km from the centre of Cambridge between Milton and Waterbeach. The Lakes will provide a much needed leisure resource for Cambridgeshire and the East of England. Mr Paice observed that, "Cambridge Sport Lakes is committed to being a facility for local people as well as our elite athletes, which is the best way to ensure it receives full public support."

Sir David Trippier, Chairman of the Cambridge Sport Lakes campaign reported, "We plan to open Cambridge Sport Lakes within the next five years. The Lakes will attract more than 15,000 amateur and elite athletes annually and provide a much needed breathing space and leisure resource for the growing number of residents in the Cambridgeshire area." Sir David is also Chairman of Cambridgeshire Horizons, the organisation responsible for driving the delivery of 47,500 new homes and £2.2 bn of support infrastructure in the Cambridge Sub-region by 2016.
The £16 m Cambridge Sport Lakes project will bring taxpayers many savings through the preventative health benefits gained through sporting activities. People of all ages will be able to enjoy the benefits within its first three years of operation. Sir David concluded his remarks by inviting, "Government and national organisations to become founding partners in what we believe will be the largest purpose-built sports venue in the nation. Together we can demonstrate another successful public private partnership enhancing the quality of our lives for only a modest cost."
3rd & 4th November 2004: School Students Visit the Archaeological Evaluation. [top]

On 3rd and 4th November 2004, primary school children from Waterbeach and Milton were given the chance to see history being uncovered before their eyes at the archaeological evaluation of the Cambridge Sport Lakes site. Around 150 children and teachers were introduced to the ‘Archaeologist at Work!' through a visit to one of the 42 trenches of the evaluation and a hands-on ‘finds' washing session, cleaning pottery and bone found on-site. The visits were a resounding success with lots of smiling faces. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to be out in the open air especially the tramping through muddy fields to reach the trenching.

Oxford Archaeology are undertaking the Cambridge Sport Lakes archaeological evaluation throughout Autumn 2004 on behalf of Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust. A brief introduction to the project was given by a Trust representative. Site tours were conducted by the Oxford Archaeology Outreach Officer and a member of their on-site team. Cambridgeshire County Council's Archaeology Outreach Officer was also on-site both days to introduce teachers to the resources offered by the County.
17th September 2004: Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust Honoured by Royal Patron [top]
Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust is pleased to announce that HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh KG, KT has honoured the Cambridge Rowing Trust with his Royal Patronage. The Duke of Edinburgh made the decision to become the Trust's Royal Patron following a review of the Trust's 220-acre Cambridge Sport Lakes project. The project will create one of the country's largest purpose-built sports facilities and competition venues for rowing, canoeing, triathlon, cycling and BMX in East Anglia.
"The Duke of Edinburgh's recognition of the Trust is a huge incentive for us to continue turning Cambridge Sport Lakes into a reality" said Chris Dalley, Chairman of the Trust and former international rower. "By becoming the Royal Patron, His Royal Highness is acknowledging the importance of making outdoor sporting facilities and parkland accessible to the community here in Cambridgeshire."
The Duke of Edinburgh's recognition is particularly valued by the Trust. Through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, His Royal Highness has already helped over two and a half million able-bodied and disabled 14 to 25 year olds world-wide to challenge themselves physically, mentally and emotionally through outdoor activities. The Duke has also worked to promote the protection of nature through his Patronage of the World Wide Fund for Nature.
In a letter to Trustee, Sir Michael Latham DL, MA, FRSA, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh said that he was "delighted to become the Trust's Royal Patron" and "looks forward to being periodically kept up to date with the progress being made towards the Trust's ultimate goals." "We hope to ask His Royal Highness to celebrate the new park by opening the Lakes in 2009," adds Sir Michael Latham.
